TEST TRANSPARENT GIF Captain Del Stephens, a.k.a. "Tuna Dog"

Many believe that Captain Del Stephens, aka "Tuna Dog," was born with fins, not hands. He's been an avid angler since he was old enough to handle a fishing rod. His love for fishing and boating continues to grow deeper with every day he spends on the water.

Del's angling obsessions began on the high lakes of Oregon's Cascade mountains stalking monster lake trout and kokanee. It was here the brilliant colors of the early morning sunrise enlightened his uncompromising love of the outdoors and the challenge of outsmarting the elusive fish below. From his home in Portland, Oregon, his journeys have expanded to fisheries throughout the west and around the world. He's caught marlin, dorado and roosterfish in Mexico, chased sailfish and tarpon in Costa Rica, landed giant sea run brown trout in Tierra Del Fuego, boated big Wahoo in the Bahamas and makes it an annual trek to pursuit monster blue fin tuna out of Hatteras, North Carolina. While the local waters of the Willamette and Columbia River lure him frequently, it's the offshore waters of the deep blue that have emerged as his greatest passion. Only the weather will stop him from running offshore during the spring, summer and fall in search of tuna, salmon and halibut. And a little luck and perseverance hopefully will someday payoff and he'll land a giant blue fin tuna off the Oregon or Washington coast.

Del captains BAD-TO-THE-BONE, a 33' Hydra Sport center console equipped with the latest state-of-the-art Garmin electronics for chart mapping, radar and fish finding. He holds a Coast Guard masters license and has been a charter captain for many years but now primarily focuses on fishing offshore tournaments, pleasure fishing and giving seminars. Del's easy going attitude, natural fishing abilities and love for the sport create an environment for him to share his knowledge with others. He's a frequent speaker at sport shows in Oregon and Washington giving 15-20 seminars during the offseason.

The last 7 years he has worked at helping to build the Oregon Tuna Classic Tournament Series into one of the largest charity fishing tournaments on the west coast, serving as the Chairman for 4 years. A tournament series that draws over 2,000 participants from five western states with all the proceeds going to help the hungry and those less fortunate in Oregon and Washington coastal communities.

Del was honored by the Governor in 2011 and received the Outstanding Oregon Tourism Volunteer Award for the impact the tournaments have on the local coastal communities. Those efforts were also acknowledged in 2010 by the Bohemian Foundation when he received the e-Chievement Award "celebrating those who are making a positive difference in their communities and beyond". Del was recently honored with the Hall Of Fame Award by the Oregon Coalition for Educating Anglers for all the years of service and support he has given them.

Captain of Team Bad To The Bone, a Portland Oregon based offshore tournament team comprised of five members, they are a perennial contender anytime their on the water in pursuit of big game. A mixture of intellectual young energy and mature years of experience has enabled his team to grace the podium twelve times in the last five years during the Oregon Tuna Classic Tournament Series. A series of IGFA Offshore World Championship qualifying events. In 2012 his team won the OTC tournament Series Championship and received the official invite to compete in the IGFA Offshore World Championships held in Costa Rica in April 2013. He is well known and highly regarded as a leader in the offshore fishing circles of the northwest.

Pro Staff angler for DAIWA, Garmin, Fish Trap Lures, Seaguar, Ballyhood, TUf-Line, Terrafin & Gamakatsu. Del Stephens maintains affiliations with Berkley, Mustang Survival, Scotty, Hot Fish, Rivers West, Eat Me Lures, Lamiglas & Yakima Bait.

His love for the outdoors doesn't stop at fishing and he still remembers those cold mornings as a kid too young to carry a gun but old enough to follow his father through the woods chasing blacktails. Those fond memories and experiences have led to travels throughout the western states on the hunt for mule deer, whitetails, antelope and elk. Traveling to Argentina for wild boar and stag, Alaska in pursuit of moose and mountain goat and Mexico to kill giant desert mule deer. They say "patience is a virtue" and Del seems to have inherited it from his father, which served him well while stalking then sitting and shivering for 3 hours, just 13 yards from his first archery mule deer, waiting for it to stand up.

Del Stephens has been featured in numerous magazines including Sport Fishing Magazine, Western Outdoors Magazine, Outdoor Life Magazine, Northwest Sportmans Magazine, CCA's Tide Magazine and on nationally broadcast television and radio programs including Americas Outdoor Journal, GPS Outdoors, ESPN Outdoors TV and The Joy of Fishing. He's an occasional guest on Northwest Wild Country and ESPN's Outdoor Line radio & TV shows.

In between these adventures, and what might seem like a lot of playing, are the duties of his day job. Del is the President and CEO of Dura Industries where he oversees the day to day activities of his northwest Portland company. Dura Industries is a unique niche company that provides PVDF coatings on architectural aluminum panels, breakshapes and extrusions for curtain walls on monumental buildings most recently coating all the exterior panels of the Matthew Knight Arena on the University of Oregon campus.
